ABOUT ME
Erika Gavitt
Teacher, amateur photographer
Based in Los Angeles
Hi, I'm Erika. My day-to-day involves being a teacher but I've recently picked up photography again after a ten-year hiatus. When I was younger, I worked primarily with digital photography. While I had cheap toy cameras that I fooled around with, this feels like the first time I am intentionally working with 35mm film. I created this space to store and share my experimental work as I learn about this medium. This site will be updated as I continue to shoot, develop, and scan my work - all of which tend to happen sporadically as a result of balancing my other responsibilities.
I love the mundane. The people you see in these pictures are often loved ones and the places will often be my home or the surrounding area unless stated otherwise.
Photos before Spring 2021 were taken with a Minolta SRT 100 - a camera my partner bought for his high school photography class, which I borrowed and loaded with Fujifilm 400 Superia film. Photos around Spring 2021 were taken with a Canon A1 using Fujifilm 400 Superia film. The four-panel pictures are the product of using a Lomography ActionSampler.
All photos were developed and printed at local labs, two small family-owned businesses. Most were scanned using an HP Envy printer. While there may be imperfections or warps from cheap scanning, I have not retouched or edited the photos otherwise.
